My Upstairs Neighbor
A love song to city living recorded in an NYC apartment kitchen.
This week, I'm up in the mountains following a really fun festival set last weekend, which made me want to play more gigs. Penland School of Craft's homemade parade and fireworks with my dear friends is my favorite way to start July. I'm holding off on new songs to do a little goofing around until I start a short residency out west in early August.
In the meantime, an old demo from the last record. I love the way city living makes sure you spill into other people's lives through windows, stairwells, thin walls. It's far less lonely than shuttered windows and fences. I keep thinking about Laura Nyro’s arrangements and what a full band version of this one might have been. No looking back too long, though. See you on the sidewalk.
