Dear Friends,
A Nightcap for you, a song to bring in a little laughter, a little tenderness, a little comfort and joy. Which is how Nightcap began, and what it is made of. During the pandemic, when the days and the streets were empty, I put on Jean’s goggles and tried to make friends laugh, and I sang “Feeling of Beauty” to remind myself that the world was rich and strange and beautiful and we all might be ok. I had a drink while doing it, I sent it to you in video form, and Nightcap was born.
Nightcap is still a funny, tiny update from our house, a mundane archive, a song I’m singing to myself; this week, it’s a recent new song from a compilation Songs For Sex for the great organization NOISE FOR NOW. I try to respond to the world with my work and will never give up on storytelling as a way to grow a compassionate imagination. In this polarized season, I couldn’t help thinking sex might be the ONE GOOD THING we might all agree on. I made myself laugh wondering who in the world is against recreational sex. And I thought about how beautifully vulnerable it is to open to the possibilities love brings, even without the complexities of election-year politics. I hope you enjoy this song, I hope you will dig into the whole album, and I hope you vote for more love no matter what it looks like.
Love, Tift
